Solidarity Working Group

Advancing solidarity economies and social impact through diversity & inclusion across Canada.

Across Canada, systemic discrimination, racial injustice, and exclusion continue to undermine the social and economic fabric of the nation. To create a resilient, future-ready economy, we must implement bold, transformative policies and strategies that center justice, access, and sustainability. Social Purpose Organizations (SPOs) and entrepreneurship are powerful engines of economic innovation and impact. Yet, Black, Indigenous, and other racialized entrepreneurs face persistent barriers—particularly in access to capital, networks, and support infrastructure—that prevent their full participation.

Canada faces a capital flow bottleneck—but we’ve identified partners ready to champion equity as catalysts for impact. This pivotal moment offers a chance to drive economic justice through belonging, accountability, and bold action on inclusion, access, decolonization, and equity.

This pivotal moment of energized leadership and growing public presents a rare and urgent opportunity to fundamentally reimagine how we build inclusive economic systems. The longstanding inequities in our communities—amplified by recent crises—have been laid bare, challenging us to move beyond performative gestures toward structural change. Rebuilding with equity as our foundation is not only a moral imperative, but an economic necessity
These barriers are not incidental. They are the result of entrenched systemic inequities, including unconscious bias in loan and grant adjudication, a racialized wealth gap, and historic underinvestment in the aforementioned communities. Addressing these disparities is not about charity—it is about unlocking the full creative, economic, and leadership potential of our nation. By building an ecosystem rooted in equity, trust, and reciprocity, we can usher in a new era of shared prosperity and nation-building that reflects the richness of all our communities.
